Proverbs 27:23 – "Know the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds."
2 Corinthians 8:1-3 - "We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord,"
2 Corinthians 8:7 - "But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also."
Why does God want me to give and how does it benefit my life?
Giving makes me more like Christ.
John 3:16 - “God so loved the world that He gave.” His one and only Son."
Giving draws me closer to God.
Matthew 6:21 - "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Giving breaks the grip of materialism.
Matthew 6:24 - "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
1 Timothy 6:17-18 - "Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others."
Giving strengthens our faith.
Malachi 3:10 - "Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need."
2 Corinthians 9:7-8 - "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."
Giving is a test of our maturity.
Luke 16:11 - "And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?"
Giving is an investment for eternity.
1 Timothy 6:19 - "By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life."
Giving blesses me in return.
Proverbs 3:9-10 - "Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine."
Giving helps me to keep my life in perspective.
1 Chronicles 29:12-13 - "Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name."
