The Sower

Part 2

Read Luke 8:4-15

Q1: The seed is the word of God in this parable. What do you learn about the power in the word of God from this story?

In the first example the seed fell along the path and was trampled. This person hears the word of God but the devil takes away the word so they may not believe and are not saved.

Q2: Have you seen this happen to people?

In the second example the seed fell on the rock and actually grew up. But it withered because it had no moisture. They receive the word of God with joy and believe for a while but have no root. And they fall away.

Q3: Have you seen this happen to people?

Q4: Why do you think times of testing cause some to fall away?

Q5: How can you avoid this?

In the third example the seed fell on among some thorns. It grew up but so did the thorns. And the thorns choked it.

Q6: How do the cares, riches, and pleasure of this life choke out the word of God from a person’s life and keep them from becoming more mature in their faith?

Q7: How can you avoid this?

In the fourth example, the seed fell on good soil. It grew and yielded a hundredfold. They hold the word in an honest and good heart. And with patience bear fruit.

Q8: What is the difference in this person and the other three examples?

Q9: Why does it take patience to bear fruit?

Q10: Have you seen people that produced fruit that yielded a hundred fold in their life?

Q11: How can you become or continue to be this type of person?

Q12: Which type of soil do you identify your life with right now?

Q13: What type of soil do you want your life to be like?
