A vertical plan for life

Submit to authority in your life

1 Peter 5:5 - “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders.”

Proverbs 8:35-36 - "For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death."

Choose an attitude of humility

1 Peter 5:5-6 - “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.”

Isaiah 57:15 - "The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One says this: 'I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts."

Learn to give your anxiety to God

1 Peter 5:6-7 – “Humble yourselves…casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”

Psalm 55:22 - "Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken."

Be very aware of your enemy and resist Him

1 Peter 5:8-9 - “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.”

Put all of your hope in God

1 Peter 5:10-11 - “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To Him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Biblical hope is a strong, confident expectation in God’s future faithfulness and His presence.

"The suffering won't last forever. It won't be long before this generous God has great plans for us in Christ -- eternal and glorious plans they are! -- will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, He does." (The Message)
