Colossians 2:9-10 - For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

Jesus doesn’t want to be FIRST; he wants to be the CENTER of your life!

A Few Observations About Relationships

  • The truest test of whether Jesus is Lord of your life is your home.
  • The issue is function, not inferiority.
  • The family is in desperate need of help today.

Relationships Where Jesus Must Be At The Center

He must be at the center of our marriages

  • The wife
Colossians 3:18 - "Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord."
  • The husband
Colossians 3:19 - "Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them."
1 Peter 3:7 - "In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered."

He must be at the center of our parenting.

  • The child
Colossians 3:20 - "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."
Ephesians 6:1-3 - "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother' (this is the first commandment with a promise), 'that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.'”
  • The parenting
Colossians 3:21- "Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged."

Four things you can do to discourage your child:

  • Ignore them
  • Indulge them
  • Insult them
  • Intimidate them
Ephesians 6:4 - "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."

He must be at the center of our workplace

  • Employer
Colossians 3:22-25 - "Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality."
  • Employee
Colossians 4:1 - "Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven."
