Is Jesus Enough?

Sermon Notes & Group Questions

If Jesus Is Not Enough…

1. We will always live with restlessness in our soul.

“You made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in you.” - St. Augustine

If Jesus is not enough…

2. We become performance driven.

3. We begin to add idols to Jesus.

“Idolatry is simply trying to build our identity on something besides Jesus. An idol is anything or anyone that you conclude, in your heart, you must have in order for your life to be meaningful, valuable, secure, exciting, or free.” Tullian Tchividjian

“Whatever your heart clings to and confides in is really your God.” - Martin Luther

“That’s why Jesus plus nothing truly does equal Everything. Jesus is Enough!” - Brian Bloye

Colossians 1:11-14 - “May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Colossians 2:9-10 - “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.”

I want you to grab hold of these three truths - Because Jesus Is Enough…

1. am fully accepted in Christ

2. I am totally secure in Christ

3. I am completely significant in Christ

Romans 8:14-16 - “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

How Do We Embrace The Fact That Jesus Is Enough?

1. Realize That Jesus + Anything Else Leads Us To Shame and Emptiness

“Shame is an intensely painful feeling that we are unworthy of love and belonging.” -Renee Brown

Ecclesiastes 3:10-11 - “I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”

2. Embrace Freedom and Refuse To Go Back To Slavery

Galatians 5:1 - For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

3. Relax in the truth of these words – “It Is Finished”

Luke 22:35 - “And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”
