How do you live for God in a godless culture?
Say no to sin.
1 Peter 4:1-2 - “Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.”
1 Peter 3:18, 22 - “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to Him.”
Say to yes to obeying God and His will.
I Peter 4:2-3 - “So as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.”
Romans 12:2 - “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Be patient and loving toward lost people.
1 Peter 4:4-6 - “With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.”
Devote yourself to praying for our culture.
1 Peter 4:7 - "The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers."
James 5:16 - "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."
Three things to keep in mind:
- Continue to live for Christ.
- Expect to be misunderstood and even persecuted.
- Keep your eyes on Jesus.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in HIs wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
