Generous

Section 1

Q1: notes

"Generosity is not about doing the minimum. It's every day looking for opportunities to do the unexpected." (Ken Blanchard)

Malachi 3:10 - “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!”

Luke 6:38 - “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Deuteronomy 15:10 - “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”

Proverbs 19:17 - “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

Proverbs 22:9 - “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”

Proverbs 11:24-25 - “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 - “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

2 Corinthians 9:10-11 - “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

I John 3:17 - “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”

“Jesus is the subject of the Bible, He’s the noun. Giving is the verb.” (Pastor Robert Morris)

1 Timothy 6:18-19 - “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”

Generosity is an issue of the heart

Matthew 6:21 - “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Generosity is an issue of belief

Belief involves risk; we carry on with no clear end in sight and perhaps even no clear view of the next step.” (Philip Yancey)
