Christmas at West Ridge – The Light of the World

Message Notes

Isaiah 9:2 – “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone…”

Isaiah 6-7 – “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”

Because of Jesus’ birth, we have a:

  • Wonderful Counselor

Hebrew 4:15 - “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.”

  • Mighty God

• Mighty in the Hebrew is the Word Gibbor – gibbor means powerful warrior, a hero, a champion.

• God is the Word – El- it’s usually put before another name of God – elshaddai –god who overcomes, Elohim – God who creates - in this case it’s El Gibbor – that means that…

  • Everlasting Father

Hebrews 13:8 - “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Deuteronomy 13:5 - “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

  • Prince of Peace

John 1:14 – “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

John 8:12 - “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
