A Plan To Change Your World

Sermon Notes

Matthew 5:13-16 - “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

What’s the big deal about salt and light?

  • SALT represents your influence in this world.
  • LIGHT represents your testimony in this world.

What does salt do?

  • It gives taste to food
  • It preserves
  • It creates thirst

Challenges:

  • In order for salt to be effective and make a difference, it has to come out of the saltshaker.
  • We need to make sure we don’t lose our saltiness by being polluted by the world.
    • Matthew 5:13 - “...but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.”

What does light do?

  • It exposes darkness

John 8:12 - “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

  • It serves as a guide

Matthew 5:16 - “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Challenges:

  • We need to make sure we are shining the right light.

2 Corinthians 11:14 - “…for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

  • We need to make sure we are not hiding the light.

Matthew 5:14-15 - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.”

A formula to change the world around you

HP + CP + RD = MI

  • MI = Maximum Impact
  • HP = High Potency
  • CP = Close Proximity
  • RD = Rich Density

What is the most effective way to make this formula work?

  • Get in a group
  • Get your group on mission
  • Make sure your mission is all about Jesus!

Romans 15:13 - “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
